Popular historic hall from the 1970s onwards, the former cinema-theater Maestoso will become a sports complex.

The restoration, which will be completed by spring 2022, is an initiative of owner of the property Italcine, while the management will be entrusted to Virgin Active.

The new function that will be installed will have a positive impact on the neighborhood, offering new activities and opportunities for aggregation, and on the city, by redeveloping a lot overlooking the area of the Porta Romana railyard without distorting its relationship with the context.

While maintaining the perimeter and volume of the existing building with its 1930s facade, the redevelopment, about 5000 square meters in total, aims to clarify the relationships between the parts that make up the building complex by assigning specific roles to the existing volumes: the entrance volume is the point of contact with the city and the historical memory, the great hall is the place of the building's rebirth.

The project also intends to encourage the dialogue with the outside by opening the facades with large windows that make the internal activities visible, and through a roof covered with glass tiles, which reflects the light, and makes the presence within the urban fabric special.

The marble that once adorned the façade on Corso Lodi will be reproduced on the entrance volume alongside with surfaces in brass strips, while large arched openings with brass inserts will be created on the classroom volume.
